Utilization of Elkonin's Method of Phonemic Awareness in Children with Speech Fluency Disorders

The topic of this bachelor's thesis is the possibility of utilization of Elkonin's method of phonemic awareness in children with speech fluency disorders. The theoretical part focuses on general definition of communication and its developement since conception, furthermore it deals with specifics of language levels. Attention is also paid to pre-school children and description of their speech. The last brief chapter characterizes the nature of communication dissabilities in general. Out of existing communication disabilities the theoretical part focuses in detail on fluency Disorders as well namely stuttering and cluttering, their definition, etiology, diagnosis and treatment. Finally the last part describes the topic of phonological skills and Elkonin's method which develops said skills. The empirical part is realized in the form of qualitative research and it is based on analysis of phonemic awareness in observed children before and after the training. Anamnestic data of individual children are introduced as well as direct observation of the training process and subsequent evaluation. The conclusion of this research proves certain improvement of phonemic awareness and acknowledges the influence of Elkonin's method on language skills of individual children.
